PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image reading apparatus that suppresses differences in degree of a decrease in sharpness among respective colors even when interpolation processing is performed, for example, in power variation. SOLUTION: The apparatus includes parallel line sensors by color components for reading an image of a color document including a plurality of color components, a driver which makes the respective line sensors read the image, line by line, at a prescribed period, a position moving unit which relatively moves the respective line sensors and the color document at a prescribed speed in a direction orthogonal to the line sensors, a moving speed determining unit which determines the moving speed, a line delay unit which delays outputs of signals read by the respective line sensors according to a set delay quantity, and a control unit which delays and synchronizes outputs from respective image sensors according to arrangement intervals of the respective line sensors and the moving speed and determines a delay quantity including a faction of a cycle so that quantities of delay of the respective outputs from a read deviate from an integral multiple of a read cycle nearly equally to one another.
