PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device or the like having a seal material lessening the size of a projection of the seal material from the end face of a pair of substrates to the outside. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device bonds the pair of the upper substrate and the lower substrate through a frame-like seal material, and a liquid crystal in a liquid crystal holding region partitioned by the seal material is held. The frame-like seal material has an injection opening for injecting the liquid crystal and a seal material reservoir recessed in a liquid crystal holding region side at a position in the neighborhood of the injection opening. Thereby, when the injection opening of the liquid crystal is sealed by the seal material, a part of the seal material seals the injection opening of the liquid crystal, and a part of the other part of the seal material is reserved in each seal material reservoir. The size of a projection of the seal material from each end face of the pair of the lower substrate and the upper substrate to the outside can be lessened. Thereby, the liquid crystal device can be designed without considering a space of the projection of the seal material and can have the effect of facilitating the design. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
