PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple ionizing method gas detector that is short in the calibration time, and to provide an ionization method gas detection method. SOLUTION: The ionization method gas detector is constituted so as to ionize a measuring target gas and to detect its ion current for measuring the molecular weight of the measuring target gas, and is equipped with a sampling chamber 2, a standard sample container 13 for holding a standard sample 12, the standard sample piping 35 for connecting the sampling chamber 2 to the standard sample container 13, the standard sample piping valve 24 attached to the standard sample piping 35, a vacuum pump 6 enabling evacuation, the sampling chamber vacuum evacuation piping 31 for connecting the vacuum pump 6 to the sampling chamber 2 and the sampling chamber evacuation valve 26 attached to the sampling chamber evacuation piping 31.
