PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder block for a V-type engine including passages for lubricating oil and cooling liquid extending along a bottom between both banks, in which the cylinder block is capable of improving rigidity while preventing cooling effect of the lubricating oil from being lowered even if ribs are provided within the cooling liquid passage. SOLUTION: The cylinder block includes the cooling water passage 29 formed along the bottom 24 between both the banks 21a, 21b, and a projection 43 projecting within the cooling water passage 29 along the bottom 24. The main oil passage 40 is formed in the projection 43. The ribs 50a are provided for connecting the projection 43 to the bank 21a, and the ribs 50b are provided for connecting the projection 43 to the bank 21b. The ribs 50b are arranged on extension lines of the ribs 50a. The height of a portion where each of the ribs 50a, 50b is connected to the projection 43 is set to be smaller than the height of the top of the projection 43. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
