PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the omission of read image data by eliminating a period wherein a document is not lit up on a vertical scanning direction side within a range of a feed quantity of minimum resolution in a vertical scanning direction. SOLUTION: The image reader includes a pair of LED lamps 26a and 26b, a light guide means which includes the pair of LED lamps 26a and 26b at both ends and guides light emitted by those LED lamps 26a and 26b to irradiate the document, a photoelectric converting means which converts reflected light from the document irradiated with the light through the light guide means into an image signal, and a control means which adjusts a duty value of one LED lamp 26a (27R, 27G, and 27B) with an ending reference and a duty value of the other LED lamp 26b (28R, 28G, and 28B) taking the top as a reference.
