PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode material for a secondary battery which improves a charge/discharge capacity and efficiency of a battery and its manufacturing method, and provide a secondary battery provided with the above material. SOLUTION: The cathode material for a secondary battery is manufactured in a process in which a highly crystalline core carbon material is coated by a coating carbon material and calcined, and a volume ratio of the total pores of the above cathode material for the secondary battery is 0.002cc/g or less, and a volume of pores (micro pores) with a diameter of less than 40 nm is 10% or more of the total pores, and a volume of pores (macro pores) with a diameter of 40 to 180 nm is 90% or less of the total pores. The cathode material of the secondary battery is manufactured by coating a highly crystalline core carbon material with a coating carbon material and then calcined in a predetermined process, and a volume of micro pores of the cathode material thus manufactured is known to be increased and when a battery is manufactured by using the above cathode material for a secondary battery, a charge/discharge capacity and efficiency of a battery can be improved because of improvement of an occlusion function of lithium ions of the cathode material.
