<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image forming apparatus to switch and use a plurality of developing devices in which toner having the same color each other is stored, wherein images of a plurality of pages are consecutively and efficiently formed while appropriately switching the developing devices. <P>SOLUTION: In a color printing mode (a), the respective color toner images are formed two by two and superposed each other on an intermediate transfer belt 71. An interval d11 between the same color toner images is narrowed, while an interval d12 between the different color toner images is widened, thereby coping with the switching of the developing devices. In a printing mode (b) in which a monochrome image is formed by using one developing device, intervals d21 and d22 between the respective toner images are made the same.
