PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating an internal combustion engine for achieving the stable operation of the internal combustion engine and a small exhaust gas value simply, and to provide the internal combustion engine allowing this method to be performed. SOLUTION: Pressure p<SB>1</SB>, p<SB>2</SB>, p<SB>3</SB>is measured when the internal combustion engine 1 operates, a value to be set to at least one controllable operation parameter of the internal combustion engine 1 is obtained based on the measured pressure p<SB>1</SB>, p<SB>2</SB>, p<SB>3</SB>, and the obtained value is set to the operation parameter.
