A location, which can be a junction of two roads, is checked (EE) in order to determine the time needed to drive along the chosen path. Other possible paths and the time required for driving are also checked (EE) and the obtained data stored (SPE). Reference data are determined (STE) in order to develop a driver assistance system for an avoidance of a collision or for a safe turn to the right or left depending on the roadside used in the particular country. An independent claim is given for a system for the determination of the duration of a vehicle presence at a specific location.
