PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having excellent short wavelength characteristics and chemical stability by bonding an amino group-containing compound to the surface of magnetic powder having small particle size, high coercive force and saturation magnetization optimum to high density recording. SOLUTION: In the magnetic recording medium having a magnetic layer containing the magnetic powder and a binder on a non-magnetic supporting body, the magnetic recording medium having excellent short wavelength characteristics, chemical stability and high reliability is obtained by containing the amino group-containing compound onto the surface of granular or elliptical magnetic powder having 5 to 50 nm average particle size.
