PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder which can achieve stabilized image formation by enhancing the bonding strength of a recording medium and a functional liquid material with no dullness of coloring which becomes a defect in design or beauty or no adverse effect on the intrinsic physical properties of the functional liquid material. SOLUTION: After an image is formed by ejecting a functional liquid material to the roughened surface of a recording medium S by means of an ink jet head 52, the roughened region on the surface of the recording medium S is coated with a transparent material by a smoothing portion 36, thus smoothing the roughened region.
