<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial lung which prevents air bubbles in blood from flowing out of a blood outflow part. <P>SOLUTION: The artificial lung 1 is equipped with an artificial lung part 1A for performing a gas exchange on the blood and a thermal exchange part 1B for performing a thermal exchange on the blood. The artificial lung part 1A has a housing 2 which has the entire shape of an approximately rectangular solid and accommodates a hollow fiber membrane layer 3 formed by accumulating a plurality of hollow fiber membranes 31 with a gas exchanging function and a filter member 4 composed of a mesh or the like in it. The hollow fiber membrane layer 3 has the entire shape of an approximately rectangular solid, and the filter member 4 is placed on the downstream side of the hollow fiber membrane layer 3. The blood flowing from the upstream side to the downstream side in a blood flow passage formed in a space between the hollow fiber membranes 31 makes contact with the surface of each hollow fiber membrane 31 and is subjected to the gas exchange between the blood and the gas flowing a lumen of the hollow fiber membrane 31.
