<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a vehicle to travel by outputting more appropriate torque, without charging an electricity accumulating device, such as a battery with excessive power, when starting or low-speed traveling on an uphill. <P>SOLUTION: When a driver requests large torque at the starting or low-speed traveling on a slope with an ascending incline (S120), the lower limit number of revolutions Nmin and upper limit number of revolutions Nmax of an engine are calculated from a request power Pe*, within the range of the input limit Win of a battery or the status of a vehicle (S150 to S170), and the target number of revolutions Ne* of the engine is set as the number of revolutions for dividing the lower limit number of revolutions Nmin and the upper limit number of revolutions Nmax with inclination coefficients k, which are inclined to become smaller, according to as an inclination θ becomes larger (S190); and target torque Te* or torque commands Tm1* and Tm2* of motors MG1 and MG2 are set and controlled by using the target number of revolutions Ne* (S200 to S250).
