PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily display a projected image by restraining glare on the projected image with simple structure. SOLUTION: The transmission type screen 6 projects image light. The transmission type screen 6 is equipped with a random phase difference sheet 64 which is composed of birefringent material and where a plurality of first areas and second areas to divide incident luminous flux into two linearly polarized light components whose polarization directions are orthogonal to each other and then emit them are irregularly formed in the plane.
