PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner, which is provided with a deflecting means for deflecting luminous fluxes from a plurality of light source means and performing a main scanning, an imaging element for focusing the scanned luminous fluxes on respective corresponding photoreceptors, one or more mirrors located between the deflecting means and the photoreceptors, and an optical housing for positioning and holding the light source means, the deflecting means, the imaging elements and the mirrors and into which dust can be prevented from entering, and to obtain an image forming apparatus in which the occurrence of an abnormal image due to the dust and stop of the apparatus due to an abnormal operation are not caused. SOLUTION: The optical scanner is provided with the optical housing composed of two or more partial housings, wherein an optical element 630 is abutted to the inner face of the holes or notches 633 and 634 of the plate members 620 and 621 composing at least one of the partial housings, and the holes or notches 633 and 634 of the plate members 620 and 621 are shielded from the outside of the optical housing with a shielding means 1.
