PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and efficient method for removing copper ions by which, in a process of forming copper sulfide from an aqueous solution of nickel chloride containing copper ions and then removing the copper chloride by separation, coprecipitaion with nickel and addition of a large excess of nickel can be suppressed. SOLUTION: In this method, a reducing agent is added in the presence of sulfur to the aqueous solution of nickel chloride containing copper ions and the resultant copper sulfide is removed by separation to remove the copper ions. Further, the additive quantity of the reducing agent is regulated in such a way that the oxidation/reduction potential (based on an Ag/AgCl electrode) of the above aqueous solution of nickel containing the copper ions ranges from -100 to 150 mV to control the formation reaction of the copper sulfide.
