PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based antifouling coating composition excellent in water resistance, able to maintain antifouling effect for a long period of time and form coating films excellent in close adhesiveness and environmentally suitable. SOLUTION: The water-based antifouling coating composition includes a water-based dispersion of a vinyl copolymer containing a silicon-containing monomer (A) and a vinyl group-containing monomer (B) containing no silicon and 50-99 pts.mass, based on 100 pts.mass total monomer units, a vinyl group-containing monomer (b-1) containing no silicon and having≤0.5 solubility of water into the monomer at 20°C and≤25°C glass transition temperature when the monomer is made to be a homopolymer.
