摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft member for a hydrodynamic bearing unit capable of exhibiting a superior wear-resistant property and performing high hydrodynamic pressure action. SOLUTION: A shaft material 11 for generating the hydrodynamic action of a lubricant in a radial bearing clearance 6 is rolled to form a recess 7 on a shaft material 11. A first work hardening layer 14a prepared by rolling is formed on a surface layer section 14 of the recess 7 formed on the outer peripheral surface 11a of the shaft material 11, and a first work hardening layer 15a prepared by rolling is also formed on a partial zone of a surface layer section 15 of a surrounding zone 8 of the recess 7. Barreling finish is applied to the shaft material 11 after rolling the recess 7. Thus, a second work hardening layer 15b prepared by the barreling finish is formed on the surfacemost layer section of the surface layer section 15. The second work hardening layer 15b formed on the surrounding zone 8 has a hardness of 50-200 Hv when compared with the hardness of the first work hardening layer 14a formed in the recessed 7.
