Direct positive silver halide emulsions comprising fogged silver halide grains are characterized in that (i) an electron acceptor which spectrally sensitizes the emulsion to radiation having a wavelength longer than 480 mÁ so that the relative minus blue speed to relative blue speed of the emulsion measured by a specific process is greater than 7, is adsorbed on the surface of the silver halide grains and (ii) the grains are fogged with a reducing agent and a noble metal compound. The fogging agents and sensitizing electron acceptors are as described in Specification 1, 186, 711.
