A mobile terminal and a screen setup method are provided to enable a user to set a browser screen mode of a horizontal mode or a vertical mode directly and to receive equivalent contents, thereby increasing the application of a display. An input unit(210) sets one of a contents optimization mode and a screen optimization mode as a screen mode. A transceiver(200) receives contents. A display(230) displays the contents received through the transceiver. A controller(250) controls so that the received contents are displayed on a screen of the display according to the contents optimization mode or the screen optimization mode set by the input unit.
