Provided is a method for preparing a vinyl chloride monomer from the ethane of natural gas by the pyrolysis of ethane and ethylene dichloride to improve production yield. A method comprises the pyrolysis of ethane and chlorine and the pyrolysis of ethylene dichloride which are carried out, respectively, in the separated regions of a reactor. Preferably the reactor is a piped reactor or a fluidized-bed reactor using a heat carrier. Preferably the heat carrier is alumina, sand or a catalyst for high temperature. Preferably at least one of the pyrolysis of ethane and chlorine and the pyrolysis of ethylene dichloride contains a C1-C2 chloro compound, and/or a boron or phosphine-based (oxy)chloro compound.
