A system for electroplating an exterior surface of a work piece 63 comprises a tank 55 of electroplating fluid 53 which surrounds a portion of the exterior surface of the work piece, a centralizer 56 contained within the tank and extending inward from the tank towards the exterior surface of the work piece, an anode 51 which is mounted to the centraliser such that the anode located adjacent to the work piece and immersed in electroplating fluid, a seal 57 mounted to the tank for retaining the electroplating fluid in contact with the anode and exterior surface of the work piece, moving means 65 mounted to the tank 55 for moving the anode, tank, centralizer and seal along the work piece at a controlled rate, and an electrical power supply 73 connected to the anode and the work piece. The work piece 63 is generally a pipe or shaft. The work piece 63 is continuously electroplated with metallic solutions via a travelling anode that gradually plates along the axial length of the workpiece instead of plating the entire part or large portions of the part at one time. |
