[Also in Division C5] A process for the separation of oleoginous and proteinic constituents of vegetable substances comprises the step of adding to the vegetable substances at least one tannin-containing substance. Preferably the mixture is submitted to mechanical pressure in the presence of water at an elevated temperature e.g. above 80‹C. The tannin-containing substance may be added in the form of a powder or a concentrated solution e.g. a tanning extract. The vegetable starting material may comprise peanut, sunflower, colza, cotton, soya or linseed, preferably in the form of decanticated grains. Oil cakes may be treated with the tannin-containing substance to improve their nutritive properties by rendering proteins insoluble and forming complexes with them which are inaccessible to the bacterial deaminases. |
