E.coli HA 61 is cultured aerobically under submerged conditions in an aq. nutritive medium contg. suitable sources of C & N, inorg. salts and growth factors and the acetone-dried cells, or the purified isolated enzyme, are used to hydrolyse benzylpenicillin to produce 6-amino-penicillanic acid (6-APA) at levels 5-20 times greater than by known processes. |
