<p>One surface of an article made from inorganic glass containing an alkaline metal oxide is put in a liquid. This liquid contains a different alkaline metal in the form of an organic acid salt. The surface is put in the liquid at a high temp. and for a period long enough to exchange part of the alkaline metal in the surface layer with the alkaline metal in the salt. The glass article is removed from the salt and cooled. Use is with inorganic glass.</p> |
