<p>An automotive air filter has a fan-fold paper or fleece filter insert (10), one end of which has a strengthened edge (1) with a U-shaped (2, 3) cross-section in contact with the filter housing. The last fold locates and anchors between the shanks (2, 3). The outer shank (3) has a flexible lip (5) set at an angle to the U-shaped section. The outer shank has a concave transition (8) to the lip, followed by a convex profile (9). The lip stands 3-20 mm beyond the outer shank (3). Alternatively, the last two fan-folds are located between the two shanks. The strengthened edge is polypropylene, polyamide, Luranyl or e.g. hotmelt adhesive.</p> |
