In a method of joining together the ends of a belt or belts made of flexible covering material reinforced with a single layer of fabric, the ends are stripped of their coverings over a predetermined length L and the portions 2a, 2b of the reinforcement thus bared are cut to form longitudinal tongues 4a, 4<SP>1</SP>a, 4b, 4<SP>1</SP>b, the tongues at one end and the tongues at the other end then being fitted together in such a manner that the tongues at one end overlap a portion of the tongues at the other end and are themselves partly overlapped by the tongues at the other end, the coverings being subsequently renewed at the location of the join. Before the tongues are fitted together they are covered with a layer of bonding material. All the tongues 4a, 4b are of the same width, the opposite end tongues 4<SP>1</SP>a, 4<SP>1</SP>b being of half that width. |
