1,193,129. Toothed gearing. TELEFLEX Inc. 6 Sept., 1967 [20 Sept., 1966], No. 40752/67. Heading F2Q. [Also in Division C7] A sintered metal body such as an iron or steel gear-wheel having a circumferential radially inwardly extending groove in the periphery, is made by forming at least two metal powder compacts of the same composition, each compact having at least one projection or at least one depression, mating the two compacts together with the projection of one fitting the depression of the other or sintering them together. As shown in Fig. 1, two round wheel halves 2 and 4 are made by compacting a metal powder and lubricant in a die at 60,000-80,000 p.s.i. The halves are than mated together with projections 18 fitting into depressions 22 or sintered in hydrogen at 1800-2200‹ F. for iron or steel. A brazing powder may optionally be applied to the mating surfaces of the two halves prior to sintering. Alternatively each half may be sintered prior to mating or sintering together. |
