A method and a device for playing DRM contents are provided to reduce weakness of security and apply DRM without changing content source. A content player(130) outputs the first content request signal to a local terminal(200). A content controller(110) hooks the first content request signal. The content controller determines whether the contents corresponding to the first content request signal are found in the local terminal based on the hooked first content request signal. If the contents are not found in the local terminal, the content controller outputs the second content request signal corresponding to the hooked first content request signal to a server(300), receives information of the contents corresponding to the second content request signal from the server, and plays the received information. If the contents are found, the content controller receives the information of the contents from the local terminal, and decodes outputs the received information to the content player.
