A transmission/reception apparatus and a method for supporting MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) of multiple antennas in a forward link of an HRPD(High Rate Packet Data) system are provided to effectively use MIMO in a system an EV-DO, MIMO-EV-DO, MMO-OFDM users coexist. An EV-DO transmitter(411) modulates physical layer packet data to be transmitted into a radio signal according to a predetermined method, and transmits it to a radio network. A MIMO dedicated pilot inserting unit(410) inserts a MIMO dedicated pilot into a particular interlace of a slot in which the radio signal is transmitted. A MIMO interlace selector(412) controls an operation of the MIMO dedicated pilot inserting unit and controls such that the MIMO dedicated pilot is not inserted into the other remaining interfaces than the particular interface.
