A method for compensating a recording power in an optical disc drive is provided to compensate the recording power to the optimum value without delaying the time for recording the recording power of an optical disc, considering the optimum recording power value obtained with respect to inner and outer circumferences of the optical disc. It is determined whether a recording power needs to be compensated. If the recording power needs to be compensated, a beta value of high frequency reproduction signal, which is proportional to the amount of reflection light of an optical disc, is obtained(S202). An error between the obtained beta value and a target beta value is calculated(S203). A new recording power is determined based on the calculated error(S205).
