A method and an apparatus for driving a display device are provided to accelerate charging and discharging processes of display elements by applying a regulated voltage to the display elements. An apparatus for driving a display device includes first and second driving units, a driver switch unit(14), and a switch controller(16). The first driving unit is connected to a first voltage source, which supplies a voltage within a predetermined range, applies a grayscale signal corresponding to grayscale data, and provides the voltage corresponding to the grayscale signal to display elements. The second driving unit applies plural voltages, which are selected from the predetermined range, to the display elements. The driver switch unit alternately turns on the first and second driving units. The switch controller generates a switch signal for selecting one of the driving units. A second voltage source is arranged outside the display device.
