FIELD: analyzing or investigating of materials. ^ SUBSTANCE: method comprises measuring maximum value of the intensity of the magnetic field that defines the maximum value of the residual stress directed along the magnetic field. The external loading abruptly increases or decreases depending on the operation condition of the article. The intensity of the magnetic field is measured in the reference zones, and the results are compared with the values obtained before the change in external loading. The increased or decreased intensity of magnetic field indicates weather the residual stress is elastic or plastic. ^ EFFECT: enhanced reliability. ^ 4 dwg
