An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a driving method thereof are provided to use a dot display cell of a simple matrix driving type, thereby reducing the manufacturing cost. An LCD comprises a display liquid crystal cell(76) and an area division liquid crystal cell(77). The display liquid crystal cell is located at the upper portion and the area division liquid crystal cell is located at the lower portion. Upper and lower substrates(50a,50b) are located in parallel to the cells and a liquid crystal(55) is interposed between the substrates. A power supply member(68) is connected between upper and lower transparent electrodes(52a,52b). The power supply member applies the voltage between the transparent electrodes so that the alignment state of the liquid crystal is changed. An upper polarization plate(54a) is arranged at the outside of the upper substrate of the display liquid crystal cell. A lower polarization plate(54b) is arranged at the outside of the lower substrate of the area division liquid crystal cell. |
