Disclosed is the use of an LIVP strain of vaccinia virus in the preparation of a composition for detection of a tumour, tumour tissue, cancer or metastasis in a subject, wherein: (1) the virus comprises DNA encoding a detectable protein or protein capable of inducing a detectable signal; (2) the virus is capable of replicating in the subject; (3) the virus is recognized by the immune system of the subject; (4) the virus is not pathogenic or is attenuated.
