The machine includes an expansion device (110) which expands working fluid to generate driving force used to actuate an electric power generator e.g. motor generator (120). Working fluid from the expansion device is discharged through a passage having an oil pooling portion which pools the lubricating oil that flows with the working fluid. The lubricating oil in the working fluid abuts the sliding portions of the expansion device and the electric power generator, and is heated to a gas-phase condition. A heating unit (31) heats the working fluid within the oil pooling portion. An independent claim is also included for an expansion device.
