The assembly has software-based control or regulation unit (8) provided with a spring torque limiter unit. The limiter unit limits the maximum spring torque being introduced into the computation of the engine torque over the difference of a maximum support torque from a momentary vehicle speed, and a preset holding damping torque. An independent claim is also included for the method for realizing a software- stop with an electromechanical steering assembly.
