<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric element capable of suppressing deterioration in characteristics when the displacement of a piezoelectric layer is transmitted to a liquid, and to provide a method of manufacturing the piezoelectric element. <P>SOLUTION: The piezoelectric element 2 has a piezoelectric layer 7, and a displacement transmitting layer 6 for transmitting the displacement of the piezoelectric layer 7 to a liquid object. The displacement transmitting layer 6 contains SiO<SB>2</SB>. The SiO<SB>2</SB>contained in the displacement transmitting layer 6 does not form a solid solution with a piezoelectric ceramic of the displacement transmitting layer 6, but is precipitated into grain boundaries to fill a gap between particles of the displacement transmitting layer 6. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
