PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle rear body structure capable of effectively suppressing the folding of the upper part of a rear side member at a collision of a rear surface while accomplishing the reduction of the number of parts and light weight utilizing respective rigid portions of a joint part with a side sill inner and a connection part with a cross member. SOLUTION: A reinforce 10 of a hat-like cross section is bonded into a hat-like cross section of the rear side member between the rear part 2R of the side sill inner 2A and the cross member 6 connected with right and left rear side members 1 to constitute a box-like closed cross section structure R closed in a longitudinal direction and in a vehicle width direction. Thereby, the closed cross section structure R becomes the rigid portion and the folding of the upper part of the rear side member 1 can be suppressed. Further, the rigid portion of the joint part C1 to the side sill inner 2A and the rigid portion of the connection part C2 of the cross member 6 are jointly provided and the rigidity of the rear side member 1 can be further enhanced over a wide range even if the reinforce 10 is a small size and the folding of the upper part of a kick-up part K can be effectively suppressed at the collision of the rear surface while accomplishing the reduction and light weight of the reinforcement parts.
