PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation film capable of greatly improving a yield in a width direction as compared with a conventional one. SOLUTION: In a method for producing a retardation film obtained by stretching a long cycloolefin resin film F in a width direction thereof, the yield in the width direction after stretch can be greatly improved by properly controlling the thickness distribution of the resin film before stretch.
