PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical film capable of obtaining the optical film which is used for forming a film prepared by melt-extruding and which has a high level surface uniformity without having optical defects, and to provide a roll capable of obtaining such optical film. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing an optical film which forms the film prepared by melt-extruding using the roll comprises a surface layer obtained by flame spray coating of a tungsten carbide as the roll and uses the rolls in which the surface layer obtained by flame spray coating of the tungsten carbide is subjected to polishing finish using at least≥4,000 of polishing members.
