[Also in Divisions C6- C7] Compositions suitable for making metallizable articles comprise (1) a substantially crystalline olefin polymer derived from at least a major proportion of C 2-8 olefin and (2) 1 to 55 weight per cent of a compatible thermoplastic coumarone-indene resin. The olefin polymer may be a polymer of ethylene, propylene, butene-1, 3- methylbutene-1 or 4-methylpentene-1, or a copolymer thereof with a minor proportion of methyl methacrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile or vinyl acetate. The coumarone-indene resin may have a softening-point of at least 65‹ C., and may be hydrogenated or phenolmodified. The compositions may also contain non-ionic surface-active agents, stabilizers, plasticizers, pigments and fillers, e.g. talc, titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate, bentonite, mica, clay, barium sulphate, glass fibres, wood flour and asbestos fibres; and may be made into shaped articles and subjected to metal-plating or vacuum metallizing. Examples describe compositions comprising coumarone - indene resins and dilauryl thiodipropionate, 2,6-di-tbutyl-4-methylphenol, calcium stearate and (1) polypropylene and titanium dioxide, (2) polypropylene and t-octylphenol/ethylene oxide condensate and (3-5) propylene/ethylene terminal block copolymer and titanium dioxide. |
