PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device for actualizing reliable start of an engine by using combustion pressure in the cylinders of the engine without increasing vibration and noises and worsening fuel economy. SOLUTION: A piston position detecting means 52 detects a piston position in a cylinder which is in an expansion stroke during stopping the engine 1. When the engine 1 is being stopped and the piston position detected by the piston position detecting means 52 is on the side of a top dead center beyond a first predetermined position, air is supplied into the cylinder which is in the expansion stroke during stopping the engine. On the other hand, when the engine 1 is being stopped and the piston position detected by the piston position detecting means 52 is on the side of a bottom dead center beyond a second predetermined position set on the side of the bottom dead center beyond the first predetermined position, air is supplied to a cylinder which is in a compression stroke during stopping the engine.
