PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of improving startability of the engine. SOLUTION: The internal combustion engine 1 includes a piston 3 and a cylinder 2 housing the piston 3, and the piston is driven by each stroke comprised of a suction stroke, a compression stroke, an expansion stroke, and an exhaust stroke to generate power. The internal combustion engine 1 has a pressure accumulating part 61 connected to the cylinder 2 via a passage for accumulated pressurized gas. The pressure accumulating part 61 supplies the accumulated pressurized gas into the cylinder 2 in an expansion stroke during engine starting, and the piston 3 is driven by a pressure of the pressurized gas.
