PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce electric power consumption, noise, and vibration by controlling current for driving a motor during conveyance of a medium optimally. SOLUTION: A bankbook printer is provided with a conveyance roller 43 for connecting the conveyance motor with a conveyance passage 42, a thickness detection means for detecting thickness of a bankbook when conveying the bankbook, and a conveyance position detection means for detecting a conveyance position of the bankbook. This medium conveyance device obtains thickness of the bankbook conveyed to the conveyance roller 43 based on the information about the thickness of the bankbook detected by the thickness detection means and the information about the conveyance position of the bankbook detected by the conveyance position detection means when conveying the bankbook, and the thickness is applied to a table set in a memory in a control unit in advance to extract strength of driving current being suitable for conveyance of the bankbook at the time and supply the current to the conveyance motor.
