The drum (1) has two roll necks (2) moving in laterally positioned bearings (3). Actuators (10) in the shape of hydraulic cylinders are positioned adjacent to the bearings (3). Unwanted vibrations are registered by a sensor system (13) and the signals transmitted to a control unit (14). The condition of the arrangement is evaluated, signals for counteracting measures generated and transmitted to the adjusting unit (15). The actuator (10) causes the bearings (3) and the roll necks (2) to move in a right angle to the central axis of the drum (1) bending the drum (1) in the process. An independent claim is given for a unit using the method.
