A method for controlling scale of a map using a touch screen in a navigation terminal is provided to enhance user convenience by enabling a user to adjust a zoom ratio of the map without using zoom in/out buttons. A controller(10) controls the overall operation of a navigation terminal. A storage unit(20) includes a first region for storing a control program for the navigation terminal, a second region for temporarily storing program data, and a third region for storing a map zoom-in reference time, a map zoom-out reference time, and the previous scale. An input unit(40) includes plural keys, such as zoom-in/out keys, generates key data of pressed keys, and outputs the key data to the controller. A touch screen(50) displays the buttons on a state/control display region under the control of the controller and displays map data. A GPS(Global Positioning System) module(60) receives position data from various GPS satellites, calculates the current position based on the position data, and outputs the result to the controller.
