PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a good recording image by reducing the visibility of the ink dots discharged on a recording medium for preliminary discharge when preliminary discharge is performed on the recording medium. SOLUTION: Preliminary discharge data and image data are compared with each other. When preliminary discharge is performed on the pixels for which no image data is provided, the image data of the pixels adjacent to the pixels is detected. When image data is present, the image data is transferred to the pixels having preliminary data. Recording is performed while preliminary data is added to image data in each scanning.
