METHOD FOR PRODUCING POLYMER PARTICLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing polymer particles having excellent water resistance and≤0.1μm average particle diameter. SOLUTION: The method for producing the polymer particles is carried out as follows. The method comprises a step of subjecting a polymerizable monomer mixture composed of a water-soluble polymerizable monomer and a polymerizable vinylic monomer copolymerizable with the water-soluble monomer and containing the water-soluble polymerizable monomer in an amount of 5-40 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the polymerizable vinylic monomer to emulsion polymerization in the presence of a nonionic surfactant and a polymerization initiator in an aqueous medium and providing the polymer particles having 0.01-0.1μm average particle diameter. The water-soluble polymerizable monomer is represented by general formula (I) (wherein, R1is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R2and R3are each the same or different and a 1-4C alkyl group; A is an -O- or an -NH-; and E is a 2-4C alkylene group or a 2-4C hydroxy-substituted alkylene group). The nonionic surfactant has 16-18.5 value of HLB (hydrophile-lipophile balance) and is used in an amount of 1-5 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. of the polymerizable monomer mixture.
