It is possible to improve indoor and outdoor visibility of a transmitting type liquid crystal display panel. A liquid crystal display device (110) mounted on a mobile terminal includes: a transmitting type liquid crystal display panel (106); a backlight of high directivity (103) arranged to oppose to a liquid crystal display panel (106); and a transmission diffusion switching film (104) for switching the transmission diffusion state of the light emitted from the backlight of high directivity (103). The transmission diffusion switching film (104) is arranged between the liquid crystal display panel (106) and the backlight of high directivity (103) and is configured so that switching can be performed between a first state at which the rectilinear light transmission ratio of the light emitted from the backlight of high directivity (103) is relatively high and a second state at which the rectilinear light transmission ratio of the light emitted from the backlight of high directivity (103) is relatively low.
